This is our lightest feeling dobari shinai we have ever produced. Its center of gravity is nearly ~71mm from the tip.

ARIGA BESSAKU No22 :: Master Quality MADAKE Koto/Chokuto Shinai SHORT Grip

"I have designed this Shinai while trying to select a Shinai that I will be using at the upcoming 8 Dan Shinsa. I say "Kotogata Tsukatan" Shinai because it has a short Tsuka (the knot of the bamboo is about 1 inch closer to your right hand, compared to regular Shinais). I always preferred short Tsukas, so I used to place Short Tsukas on a 39 Shinai, but that would leave a large gap between the Tsuka and the Knot of the bamboo, which made the Shinai look unbalanced and tip heavy. By selecting a bamboo with the Knot (where the weight is concentrated) closer to your right hand, it provides the Dobari effect, by bringing the center of gravity close to the hands. HIDA :: Top Quality MADAKE Dobari Koban (Oval) Shinai Thick Grip

HIDA is the Oval Grip (Koban Gata Shinai) Madake Shinai from E-BOGU.COM. It has a similar balance as our Dobari Shinais, but the Tsuka (handle) area is shaved down to an oval shape. The balance makes the Shinai feeel very light. “The Oval Handle makes the Kenshis hold the Shinai properly, using the correct Hasuji. Specially for strikes to the Do and Yoko Men, it improves your Kendo. This is another innovation by E-BOGU.COM.
Yaezakura is DOBARI or KOTO/CHOKUTO Shinai that has an Octagonal and Oval shape handle. Now available in both DOBARI or KOTO/CHOKUTO shape.

The Hakkaku (Octagonal) shape, gives the sense that is holding a Sword, and it is easier to tell if the grip is a little twisted. Also, the oval Tsuka (handle) is on both left and right hand.

The balance of this KENJA Shinai is closer to the handle, and it gives you a feeling of a light Shinai. The Tip is fairly thin, and the handle is thick. The approximate diameter measurements are the following (Bamboo only):

Size 39 Shinai
Left Handle: 28 mm
Right Handle: 30 mm
Dobari Area: 47 mm
Mid Shinai: 32 mm
Tip of the Shinai: 27 mm
Center of gravity: 65 mm from tip

Limited edition “SADO BEKKAKU” Shinai

has a shape that falls between the KOTO GATA and DOBARI shinais. It has a DOBARI section but it is not as thick as the regular Dobari, and the tip is not as thin as the regular DOBARI Shinais. It comes in different grip thickness ( 26, 28 mm Diameter). It is assembled with our E-BOGU Signature Brown Tsukagawa Finish on the top portion of the Tsuka.

It has a beautiful ROBIKI finish throughout the Bamboo, and a Kanji engraving on the side of the Shinai, gives an extra accent to the Shinai.

“KAI was based on the Shinai that Miyazaki sensei gave to me during his visit to the USA. When I held his Shinai, my impression was how light his Shinai was. I asked if this Shinai had over 510g and his reply was “Of course!”. The balance of the Shinai is so exceptional, that makes the Shinai feel so light. So far, I have not had the courage to use the Shinai that Sensei gave to me, but KAI has a very simmilar balance and feel of the Shinai Miyazaki sensei gave me. The bamboo was specially treated with BIO Technology for durability, giving a dark traditional look.

“This is our newest extra thick Shinai. BIZEN TOKUSEN. We designed this Shinai based on our existing BIZEN and the Shinai that I got from Takahashi Sensei from Kyoto, Japan. Takahashi Sensei and I fought at the 11th World Kendo Championships in Santa Clara, CA. I am sure people with larger hands would be very happy with this Shinai. The most challenging thing about the design of this Shinai was to keep the good balance of the Shinai, although the amount of Bamboo is larger compared to our other Shinais. One of our best selling Shinai, KUNIMASA, now in TOKUSEN Series. This Shinai holds the same balance and characteristics of the KUNIMASA Shinais, made with the Select Bamboo. The KUNIMASA is a Dobari Shinai, with a fairly thin grip. Making it easy to control, with the weight closer to the Tsuka.
